Everyone who wants to lose weight would like to do it in record time. For many, overnight would be great. However, most sound diet plans take a bit more time than that. For long-term weight loss, most diets recommend a slow and steady pace. However, if you have a special event coming up, are getting married or going on a beach vacation, you may be looking for a way to lose 10 pounds in two weeks. This is possible, but you must understand that this is not by any means a pace that you should keep up for much longer than the two-week period.
That said, there are ways to help you lose 10 pounds in two weeks.
First, cut back on the calories. This means cutting down to the very minimum calorie intake recommended, usually 1200 calories per day. Unless you are a smaller woman, this is not a limit you should stick with for very long. This limit will give varying results, depending on your base metabolism. If your height, weight and activity rate dictate that you need 2000 calories per day, you’ll shave off 800 per day just buy cutting back to 1200. That means a weight loss of almost 3.5 pounds in two weeks, all by itself. If your metabolic rate requires 2400 calories, you’ll lose 4 pounds this way.
Ramp up the Exercise
The weight loss above was based on your most basic calorie needs. However, by engaging in any activity over your normal level, you’ll burn many more calories and lose much more weight. If you’re determined to lose 10 pounds in two weeks, this one is going to take some serious effort. However, it can be done. By adding workouts to both your morning and your evening every day, seven days a week, you can increase your weight loss significantly. A one-hour interval workout, run or circuit training session can easily burn 600-700 calories. Do these twice per day, preferably mixing them up, and you’ll drop another three pounds in two weeks. Now you’re up to about six or seven pounds.
Drink a Ton of Water
This may sound like the same old thing you hear in every diet, but the fact is that drinking a lot of water will help you lose the rest of the weight. Almost no one drinks enough plain water. Unfortunately, those trying to lose weight are sabotaging their own efforts by drinking less than they should. Water aids the metabolism of fat, makes you feel fuller, aids digestion and keeps blood levels optimal. When you drink less than you need, your body will also store water to save for use later. By drinking enough water (minimum 64 ounces per day, but more is better), you’ll speed your metabolism. Burn more fat and also flush your system of stored water (that water weight everyone talks about . This loss in stored water weight and increased fat metabolism will easily help you lose the rest of your ten pounds.
Again, this is not a diet that you should stay on beyond the two weeks. If you have more weight to lose, go on a more sensible diet after your first ten-pound loss. You also want to avoid falling back on this diet every time you gain a few pounds or have a blind date. The unhealthy yo-yo effect is very real. Your metabolism will slow, your body will store more fat in expectation of another strict diet and your health will suffer in many ways. Once you’ve lost your ten pounds in two weeks, look for ways to lose the rest of the weight at a safer, steadier pace.
